A speeding ticket is a criminal offense, so your case is in a municipal court. The court date is posted on your traffic ticket. The officer has informed you whether it is mandatory for you to appear in court or if you can pay the fine without appearing in court. If you chose not to attend traffic school, the points will remain on your driving record for three years. We recommend taking a defensive driving course to ensure that the points for the ticket are not posted on your driving record.

Cost of a Speeding Ticket Fine

Texas traffic ticket fines begin at $120.00 for driving five MPH over the speed limit. The fine for a speeding ticket increases as the amount that the posted speed limit was exceeded increases, up to $185.00 for 25 MPH over the speed limit. If you were issued a speeding ticket for increasing the speed limit by more than 25 MPH, you must contact the court in the county where you received the ticket. Some courts may add a surcharge, depending on the type and number of traffic ticket s you have received previously.

Note: The court may allow you to pay your speeding ticket fine online. Cash, money order, or credit card is accepted if you pay in person. Most Texas counties will not accept a personal check.
