In Texas, defensive driving courses aren't taken only when a driver is ordered to do so by a judge. Many Texans take advantage of our state-approved defensive driving course to remove points from their drivers' licenses and to receive insurance discounts.

How Does the Point System Work in Texas?

In the state of Texas, points are assigned for moving violations. The points are assessed to the violator's driving record based on the type of offense:

• Two points for a moving violation
• Three points for a moving violation that results in a vehicle crash
• Zero points are assigned to the violator's driving record if the offense is for speeding less than 10% over the posted speed limit

The points you receive for a traffic ticket will remain on your Texas driving record for a period of three years; however, you can avoid having the points for a ticket assessed to your driving record if you take a defensive driving course.

How Does The Point Reduction Work?

When you've completed the course and passed your final exam, we'll send you your Certificate of Completion in the mail. We send the certificate directly to you so you can forward it to the court where you received the ticket. If you are on a tight deadline, we offer several expedited delivery options. You'll receive your certificate quickly and be able to track its delivery progress.
